I know that the number of civilizations is hardcoded, but is it possible to replace, for instance, the two african for two western ones?

I've had a look at the zip files but can't find where the civs are placed in there. Do you know where they are?

Sure! In C:/Program files/Sierra/Empire Earth II/zips_ee2x/EE2X_db.zip/Civilizations. I guess I could easily replace civilizations belonging to some area (western, mid-east...) just like others before me, my question is if i can do that from other areas (to have 9 european and none chinese, etc. respecting the total number of civs.

I think you can do. I havn't tried it yet but it seems you can easily edit the civ files in notepad.
Example
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // // // AfricanCivs.ddf // // civilization definitions for the African region // // // //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
//////////////////////// // Maasai
Civilization Maasai { CityNames = [ tx_ms_cityname_Nairobi TerritoryNames = [ tx_terr_maasai_0 PlayerNames = [ tx_player_maasai_0 .....
Try replacing the text in there with europeoan civs and see if it works.

Yes, it has helped me to don't be afraid of so large blocks of code. But I think I'd need to modify graphics too (So that Dutch or Spanish or Italian didn't look like Maasai or Chinese). It isn't complicated, only rather tedious. I have succesfully modded the light in temperate climate: I thought the night were too bright and little realistic. I have created new units (slaves, servants, animals...) yet none of military ones'. I am sure we can mod a lot of things in EE2 but still don't know what way. Sorry for writing so much, I'm inspired! Greetings friend.
